In Sickness and in Health

Last week was a little more mellow than the one before. I apologize for the lack of posts, but I came down with a sudden, unexplained illness at the start of the week.

My main symptoms were weakness, extreme drowsiness, and on and off headaches that ranged from mild to intense.  On Monday I couldn't bring myself to get out of bed until practice that was scheduled for the late afternoon.  It wasn't until I was actually walking to the track that I realized just how bad I felt.  I half-assed my warm-up, and didn't even finish my lift session.  I didn't want to push myself and risk injury, especially so early in the season.  People also kept asking if I was OK, so I'm sure my face and body must have showed just how tired and out of it I was.  I ended up heading back to my room, to wallow in the comfort of my bed and to nurse myself back to health.  Tuesday morning showed no changes, but by the afternoon, I was feeling a lot more chipper.  My warm up felt almost like my usual self, and my lift went 10x better than Monday's.  By Wednesday, I was feeling pretty much back to normal.

I spent a lot of my freshman year in college being sick and was not able to train to the best of my abilities a majority of the time.  Since then I take a lot of precautions to prevent getting sick, and to make sure my body is in tip-top shape.  Sometimes, getting sick is unavoidable, as it is impossible to dodge every single germ in the world, but when that happens I feel it's always important to remain positive.  I used to think being sick was the end of the world when pertaining to track, and that my training would be horribly set back because of it.  However, the best thing to do at times like that is to honestly assess your body and not push yourself.  If you're sick, you're sick, there's no going back and changing that.  As long as you keep your mental health at 100%, you'll get back to where you want to be physically in no time!

This coming week will be a busy one for me, as I have 3 essays and a skit mock-up due, so I'm hoping to have a post or two scheduled ahead of time, but if I go MIA again, please don't hold it against me :)

I have a ton of new ideas for you guys, though, so look out for them!

Stay Active!
