Ab Challenge: Week 3 Update Featuring Steve's 30-30-30s
This week's update features a new exercise called 30-30-30s. One of my teammates, Steve, showed it to me this past Friday, and it is pure torture. He learned it from one of our past teammates, Zach, and was kind enough to give a demonstration.
Basically, you hold yourself and your legs up for 30 second intervals, doing something different each time.
- The first 30 seconds you hold up a med ball with your legs. You have to make sure to stabilize them so that the ball doesn't drop. I struggled with this when the ball was first placed on my legs, but you get the hang of it as time goes on.
- The next 30 you drop the ball, and just hold your legs up in the same position as before for 30 seconds.
- The last 30 seconds you lift your legs up and down for 30 seconds. Steve says the ultimate goal for this interval is to be able to lift them 30 times. I was nowhere near close to that though, and just struggled with stabilizing my core enough so that I wouldn't swing back and forth.
If you're confused by any of that, you can watch Steve it in the video below:
And here's a picture me struggling in the last 30; Steve had to stabilize my back because I was swinging back and forth too much. He was also my time-keeper because my eyes were clenched for most of it :P
It was a huge struggle to complete, but I felt good about at least finishing it. I'm going to do it every Friday until I can at least do each of the 30s adequately well.
Let me know if you try it! It's extremely difficult, but definitely worth it :)
