Week In Review | July 12
This past week has really had its up and downs.
- My past two meets have not gone well for me and I'm not sure why. Most things have been feeling fine, from start to transition...Maybe I'm just not being powerful enough? I'm not sure, but I'm going to try and work on it with Sanders (my coach). Next week I have a meet in Nigeria, which I'm pretty excited/anxious about. It's the same meet I wasn't able to go to last year, so this will be my first time competing there. I'm hoping things will turn around there, both individually and with our 4x100 relay. It's never fun when things aren't going your way, but I've been trying to keep myself pepped up with quotes and random thoughts to myself like this one:
Note to self (and anyone else who needs the reminder): Don’t stop giving your best effort just because things are not going as you planned.— Gemma Acheampong (@fearthefall) July 17, 2015
- I finally posted my personal essay on depression, and the the reception of it was overwhelmingly positive. So many others contacted me and said they'd had similar experiences, but just never had the courage to talk about it. I'm glad that people have gotten something positive out of it, whether it's knowing they have someone to relate to about a similar past experience, or learning just how much things can turn around. Hearing all the feedback has seriously been the highlight of my week. If you haven't read it yet, check it out! And if you think someone can benefit from it in anyway, feel free to share 😊
- Aside from all that, I've had a good time bonding with my teammate, Flings, and her boyfriend, Ramon this week. We've basically been traveling like crazy to the last-minute meets, and it's been awesome bonding with them.
How about you? Did everything go your way this week? Or did you have ups and down, too? I'd love to hear about it!
